About Us

Who we are
We’re Sylvia and Frank. Frank is from Lake Tomahawk WI and has been working as a master carpenter in the Lakeland Area for the last 30 years. Sylvia moved here in 2019 and works with research tech. One winter we picked up instruments and started learning how to play. After a while we were confident enough to jam with friends and that took things to a whole new level! Now we want to bring more music to Minocqua and encourage more people to play at any age, any level.
Our first instruments
Frank first picked up a mandolin – it’s what spoke to him. He had a hard time finding lessons online or a teacher locally, so he tried a banjo, and then a guitar – now he plays them all! But his new favorite is the octave mandolin. Sylvia started with a baritone ukulele; it was simpler, with similar tuning as a guitar. She’s moved to a guitar and added a violin. As the shop evolves, we are excited to try more. We also discovered carbon-fiber instruments that sound great in any weather – perfect for the Northwoods. Now you really can play anytime, anywhere – here we are at the LAMBO Fatathlon Fat Bike race!

Our logo, by Bryon Black Creative
Our logo showcases our favorite acoustic instruments so far, our adventure lifestyle and our love for our island city. It’s also a reflection of what we hope to encourage – playing more music, anytime, anywhere, any skill, whether it’s while sitting on the dock, relaxing at your favorite local hangout, or while on a paddle. We plan to do a lot more of that ourselves. If you see us playing casually somewhere, we hope you’ll join us! Ask us about our demo instruments – open to anyone to play.
